CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Chattanooga Police responded to a shooting call at 2300 E. 14th Street around 7:45 PM Wednesday night. The residents, 40-year-old James Green and 44-year-old Vincent Hayes told police that they'd just returned home from the grocery store when the incident happened. Green said that he was exiting the restroom when he encountered a masked gunman who told him to "give it up." Green said he and the suspect got into a struggle over the gun and it discharged, striking him in the upper right shoulder. Green then pulled $17 from his pants pocket, threw it at the suspect, then retreated into the bathroom and slammed the door shut.

Hayes told investigators that he heard a commotion coming from the house and was entering the home when he encountered the suspect who then told him to give over his money. Hayes removed $120 from his pant pocket and gave it over but at some point, was still shot in the right thigh. Both men described the suspect as a masked black male,  armed with a revolver. Both Green and Hayes were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

This case is pending further investigation.
