Dalton Police seeking "quick-change" scammers

Posted: Updated:

DALTON, GA. (WRCB)-- The Dalton Police Department is asking for your help in tracking two "quick change" scammers.

The incident happened on November 30th at the Walnut Avenue Racetrac gas station.

According to police, two individuals made off with nearly $100 using a scam, in which they kept having the cashier make change in various amounts before leaving with more money than they had to start with.

The two men wanted to make a $3.00 purchase with a $100 bill.

As the cashier began to make change, the first suspect asked for the $100 bill back, saying he would pay with three $1 bills instead.

The suspect kept the cashier confused by asking for different amounts of change, and took the original $100 and approximately $97 in change. They left before the clerk realized what had happened.

Investigators believe that this incident is not related to a similar scam that happened at the Market Street Cracker Barrel.

The first suspect is a black male, standing about 5'10 and weighing approximately 240 pounds.  He wore a black leather jacket and red toboggan-type hat.

The other suspect is a black male, standing approximately 6' tall with a slim build.  He wore a long black coat and a black toboggan-type hat.

They left in a gold mini-van heading towards I-75.

Anyone with any information on this crime or the suspects involved is asked to please contact Detective Ricky Long with the Dalton Police Department at 706-278-9085, extension 168.
