Badge battle benefits kids

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)-- Different emergency response agencies came together in the name of peace, but in a violent way.

It was a battle of the badges at the "Guns and Hoses" benefit boxing tournament.

Several thousand people turned out for the boxing matches pitting members of different agencies against one another.

The money raised goes to The Forgotten Child Fund and the Westside Boxing Club.

The goal of these organizations is to help inner city youth get on the right path and make sure kids have a present Christmas morning.

While they might be fighting in the ring, outside, they are all on the same side.

"It's the comradery, and trying to help a kid. A kid on the street, or at Westside Boxing that wasn't going to get a Christmas present, they are going to get one. That's what makes a difference for us. We're out there on the streets where the rubber meets the pavement and we see the good it does," says Kelley Simmons.

Simmons says any kind of positive interaction with kids in the inner city is beneficial.

This is the second year they have put on this event.
