Haslam names campaign manager as special assistant
NASHVILLE, TN. (AP) - Republican Gov.-elect Bill Haslam has named his campaign manager Mark Cate as special assistant to the governor.
Haslam made the announcement Saturday.
Cate's portfolio will include serving as political adviser, working on special projects and assisting Deputy Gov. Claude Ramsey.
Cate has been working on Haslam's three-man transition team since the Knoxville mayor's landslide victory last month.
Haslam lauded Cate's professionalism during the governor's race, saying he "made the trains run on time."
Cate is the third person named to Haslam's senior staff.
Ramsey, the longtime mayor of Hamilton County, was named deputy governor and chief of staff in Chattanooga on Friday.
Knoxville attorney Herbert Slatery was tapped as legal counsel last month.
Haslam succeeds term-limited Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen on Jan 15.
