UPDATE: SWAT called to family dispute

Posted: Updated:

Update 10pm-- Tavaras Menifee was located after police conducted a safety sweep of his home. Police were alerted to Menifee shortly after the sweep by a neighbor who found him hiding in his car. Menifee was arrested for an outstanding warrant but was not charged in the domestic incident that occurred due to insufficient evidence and lack of cooperation by alleged victims.

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – Chattanooga SWAT was called after a father-son dispute turned to gunfire.

Police responded to a domestic incident at 2905 5th Avenue around 8:15a.m.  Police spoke to Marvin Menifee who said he and his son, Tavaras Menifee, had been arguing when his son pulled out and fired a gun.

Officers attempted to contact the younger Menifee inside the home. When they did not receive a response, SWAT was called to the scene.  Police say calling SWAT is a standard procedure when dealing with a possible barricaded gunman.

The Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Unit utilized their robots to search the home for Tavaras Menifee.  The EOD was not able to find Menifee or the weapon inside the home.

Officers say there is not enough evidence to charge Tavaras Menifee with a crime at this time.
