UPDATE: Hamilton County Commission approves tax breaks for Amazon.com

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - The Hamilton County Commission has approved a tax incentives plan for the proposed Amazon.com development.

The incentives are similar to those approved by the Chattanooga City Council. The incentives, known as "PILOT" or payment in lieu of taxes, would waive property taxes for the company, but still require payments for storm water and the school district.

The proposed development is still waiting on approval of the incentive package from Bradley County and the state.

Also at the commission meeting, Policy Director for Amazon.com, Fred Kiga, tells Eyewitness News Amazon.com plans to use job fairs to hire the needed employees for two proposed developments.  While the company has no specific date in mind, Kiga says the expect those job fairs to begin in mid-2011.

Kiga tells Eyewitness News the minimum requirement for a position at the fulfillment center will be a high school diploma or a G.E.D.
