Fort Campbell soldiers to return home in January

CLARKSVILLE, TN. (AP) - About 15,000 101st Airborne Division soldiers deployed to Afghanistan will start returning to Fort Campbell in January during homecoming flights that will continue for several months.

The first unit to arrive home was the first to deploy - the 3rd Brigade Combat Team. The Leaf-Chronicle reported they will be followed by the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, the 1st and 2nd Brigade Combat Teams.

Each brigade combat team is approximately 3,500 soldiers.

Even as most of the division will be home by summer, two other units, the 4th Brigade Combat Team and the 101st Sustainment Brigade, will not return until late summer or early fall of next year. Additionally, the bulk of the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade will deploy in early spring.
