Former EPB General Manager, Kenneth Baxter dies at 80

Kenneth Sanders Baxter, 80, of Chattanooga, died on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010. He was the son of the late Orace and Margaret Locke Baxter.

Kenneth graduated from University of Tennessee at Knoxville and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.

He started working for the Electric Power Board in 1958 as an Electrical Engineer, later becoming the General Manager from 1982-1996. Kenneth was named Manager of the Year in 1996.

He was active with Rotary, Mountain City Club, American Red Cross Board, PEP, TVPPA and numerous other organizations and charities.

Kenneth retired in 1996 and enjoyed every moment of it because he spent time traveling, enjoying time with his family and granddaughters. He was a loving, devoted and giving father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Baxter; and son, Grant Baxter. Survivors include his daughters, Mary Baxter (Daniel) Lowe and Becky Baxter (Michael) Sutton; grandchildren, Alexandra Baxter Lowe, Madison Rebekah Lowe, Harper Grace Sutton and Maggie Rebekah Sutton; brother, Charles (Martha) Baxter; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
