ATHENS, TN (WRCB)- The McMinn County School Board was named the state's School Board of the year at the Tennessee School Boards Association meeting in Nashville.

McMinn County's Board also won the honor in 2006. The TSBA also recognized several area school boards as being Boards of Distinction including Athens, Oak Ridge, Rhea County, Roane County, Sequatchie County and Sweetwater.

To receive the distinction, a School Board must have outstanding performance in planning, policy, boosting the quality of education, communication with the media and board development.
