CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- No injuries were reported after an apartment fire Tuesday afternoon.

The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 1:36 p.m. and responded with six fire companies to 1105 Grove Street.  Battalion Chief Bob Dixon said smoke was showing from a second floor apartment when the first firefighters arrived on the scene.

While some firefighters worked to make sure all four apartment units in the building were evacuated, other firefighters took hand-held hose lines to the second story apartment and quickly extinguished the flames.

Captain Mark Shook said most of fire damage was contained to the kitchen, though the rest of the apartment had smoke and water damage.  The other apartment units were spared any serious fire damage.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross were called in to provide assistance to those displaced by the fire.  It was not known how many families would have to spend the night elsewhere.  The cause of the fire is undetermined.
