Haslam starts putting together transition team

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Gov.-elect Bill Haslam has tapped his top campaign consultant Tom Ingram to run his transition team.

Haslam on Tuesday called Ingram "the obvious choice" to lead his transition team because of his long experience in Tennessee politics. Ingram until last year served as chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander and also worked on the Republican's staff when he was governor of Tennessee.

Ingram will be assisted by Haslam campaign manager Mark Cate and Lewis Lavine, the president of the Center for Nonprofit Management in Nashville and another top Alexander aide when he was governor.

Fundraiser Kim Kaegi was named to head up the organization of Haslam's inauguration on Jan. 15.

Haslam last week defeated Democrat Mike McWherter to succeed term-limited Gov. Phil Bredesen.
