TUNNEL HILL, GA (WRCB)- Students and staff members at Northwest Whitfield High School are preparing cakes to send to U.S. armed forces in Afghanistan.

They baked the cakes in jars and sealed them airtight to ensure they are fresh when they arrive in the Middle East. They're including icing so soldiers can frost the cakes after opening the packages.

Family and consumer science teacher Martha Jo Cook's classes have been working for several days to prepare the cakes in airtight jars and package them in boxes along with icing so they will be fresh when troops receive them.

Here is a website with one way to do this yourself: http://awtr.blogspot.com/2007/09/cake-in-jar.html
