CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- A former Hamilton County School Board member is giving back his retirement payment to one of the schools in his district.

Chester Bankston, who left the board after one term to become the County Commissioner for District 9, donated his board retirement money to Ooltewah Elementary School.

Bankston was among the Board members who tried unsuccessfully to get the payments rescinded, after they were hastily approved last August.

The $2,500 will go toward the school's art program.

Bankston says he's happy to support Ooltewah Elementary, which got straight A's across the board in the most recent state report card.

Principal Tom Arnold says since his school is not a "Title" school, it gets very little outside funding, making Bankston's contribution even more important.
