Edwards carries Soddy-Daisy into Class 6A playoffs

SODDY-DAISY, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Kevin Orr said earlier this season he'd be dumb not to give the ball to Cedric Edwards as much as possible. So last Friday, with Soddy-Daisy's playoff hopes possibly hanging in the balance, who do you think Orr called upon to carry the load?

The junior tailback broke loose for 312 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Trojans to a crucial 42-21 victory over visiting Cleveland. The victory locked up a playoff spot for Soddy-Daisy, and Friday Night Football Subway Player of the Week honors for Edwards.

The outburst boosted Edwards' season total to 1,782 yards and 17 scores.

Other standout performances from Week 10 of Friday Night Football were:

--  Baylor's Jacob Huesman and George Porter combined to rush for 322 yards and four touchdowns in the Red Raiders' 38-28 win at Father Ryan

-- LaFayette's Devarus Porter rushed for 292 yards and four touchdowns in the Ramblers' 29-19 win over Ringgold to clinch a spot in a playoff play-in game this week

-- East Ridge's Stefan Nelson led the Pioneers with 19 tackles in a 31-7 loss to Howard

-- Ooltewah's Jay Rudwell record 26 tackles, including 20 solos, in a 17-9 win over McMinn County

-- Howard's Darrion Roshell carried just five times, but racked up 135 yards and two scores in a 31-7 win over East Ridge

-- Bradley Central's Justin Houston scored on a 74-yard punt return, a 6-yard run, and a 31-yard pass reception to help the Bears rally past Walker Valley 40-33

-- North Jackson's Zac Barnard completed 14-of-19 passes for 180 yards and four touchdowns in the Chiefs' 48-7 win over rival Scottsboro that capped off a perfect 10-0 regular season

-- Sequatchie County's Justis Stewart rushed for 202 yards on 15 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Indians routed McMinn Central 42-7
