MCMINN COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -- A woman who chased after a dog that got loose was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 75 on Monday.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the 19-year-old woman from Buxton, Maine, was traveling with two other individuals when their vehicle broke down. The three called for help and waited on the side of the interstate for a wrecker to arrive.
According to the statement by the THP, when the wrecker arrived a dog jumped down from inside the vehicle and ran into the roadway. The woman ran after the dog and was struck by a passing vehicle.
The road was shut down for approximately an hour on Monday while responders treated the woman and landed Air Evac Lifeteam's helicopter.
She was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center at Knoxville; her name and condition were not available at press time this morning.
