CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- All lanes of traffic over the Chickamauga Dam have been reopened.
Update 10:20 p.m.
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -The northbound lanes over the Chickamauga Dam have reopened after a possible tornado stuck in the area Tuesday night.
Officials say the southbound lanes are expected to reopen in 2-3 hours, well before the morning rush.
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)-- A seven car crash stemming from severe weather has shutdown the Chickamauga Dam.
The crash happened just before 7:00 p.m.
According to witnesses, a possible tornado struck the fence on the southbound side of the dam throwing it into the roadway.
During the chaos, cars on the northbound side of the dam lost control and began to crash.
Five patients, including one child, were transported to the hospital by Hamilton County EMS with non-life threatening injuries.
The dam will be closed while inspectors with TVA and TDOT check the structural integrity of the bridge.
A spokesperson from TVA tells Eyewitness News there is no known structural damage to the dam itself at this time.
In a nearby neighborhood on Queen Aire Lane in Hixson, the unconfirmed tornado touched down damaging at least five homes.
There are no reported injuries but a substantial amount of damage.
