CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities are investigating former state Revenue Commissioner Reagan Farr's handling of several sales-tax collection investigations.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that the agency had received requests to investigate.

Helm told The Associated Press on Wednesday that TBI isn't asked to investigate unless a district attorney believes "there is some type of suspected criminal wrongdoing." The FBI is also investigating.

One case being examined involves family owned Middle Tennessee furniture store chain D.T. McCall & Sons, a major contributor to Republican campaigns and PACs.

Efforts to contact Farr were unsuccessful Wednesday, and the company's president didn't immediately return a call from the AP seeking comment.
