LIVELINES: LEGAL CALLS

A recent wave of teen suicides linked to anti-gay bullying, such as the high-profile suicide of Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi, is prompting schools to confront the issue.

The 18 year old Rutgers student jumped off a bridge last month after a recording of him having a sexual encounter with a man was broadcast online.

There was also a recent case in the Tennessee Valley.

Attorney Gary Starnes was our guest this morning.  Gary said most school systems have implemented "Bullying Policies."  He also said it you are being bullied or suspect your child is being bullied, it's important to document everything, put it in writing, and go to school administrators.

Gary also said that while parents of bullies can't be held liable, the bullies can, and so can school systems if there is a record of proper documentation and pattern of bullying.
