CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – What started as a call for a house fire turned into two house fires for Chattanooga firefighters Wednesday.

The blaze started just after 3:00 p.m. in a car located between two houses at 501 Spruce Street and 511 Spruce Street.

The fire quickly moved to the two houses.

Captain Jeff Eldridge, the incident commander, said that when the car caught on fire, the flames spread almost simultaneously to the two houses.

While firefighters were able to save the home at 511 Spruce with only little damage, the home at 501 Spruce was completely gutted.

Bailey Avenue between Central Avenue and Holtzclaw Avenue had to be completely closed because of all the emergency vehicles on the street.

Fire officials say three residents were displaced by the fire and are being aided by the Red Cross.

The cause of the initial car fire is under investigation.
