Fire Prevention Reminder

Posted: Updated:

(CHATTANOOGA) WRCB - Chattanooga firefighters have a warning for all as the we head into the cooler weather.
So often when the weather turns cooler, folks turn to space heaters to keep warm.
Heating appliances are the second highest cause of fires.  Cooking fires are number one.
That's why firefighters are reminding us as the fall weather approaches be cautious.
Bruce Garner with the Chattanooga Fire Department says, "Space heaters are safe if used properly, but remember the 3 foot rule, keep anything that'll burn 3 feet away from space heaters."
Firefighters say it's also a good time to change the batteries on smoke detectors.  If you do, you'll be a month ahead of the daylight saving reminder.
