CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- Police are seeking information on an assault that has left a Taft Avenue man clinging to life.

44-year-old David Chatman stumbled into his father's house at 1015 Taft Avenue around 6:30PM today and told his father that he'd been assaulted.

Chatman appeared to have been cut on the head and face and was immediately taken to a local hospital where he was placed on a ventilator. Hospital staff found that Chatman had not in fact been cut or stabbed but had suffered serious blunt force trauma to his head and neck.

According to the victim's father, Chatman came into the home through the back yard and told his father that he'd been assaulted. Shortly thereafter he lost consciousness. Chatman's father said he didn't know where his son was assaulted nor who he may have been with at the time of the assault. Because of Chatman's condition police weren't able to speak with him to get details of what may have happened.

Investigators are still working to determine details in the incident. As more information develops, updates will be given.
