Turbine generator goes through the Chickamauga Lock

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- A mammoth piece of power equipment made it's way through the Tennessee Valley Wednesday, on a barge!
It was a sight to see. The 750 thousand pound steam turbine generator crept through the Chickamauga Lock at a speed of about 4 miles an hour. TVA purchased he generator from another utility, so it had quite a boat ride from Memphis.
"We can't get clearance on many roads and over passes and it's too heavy for bridges," says Roger Waldrep, project manager.
The generator is expected to reach Knoxville by the weekend. From there it will finish the last 60 miles of the 900 mile trek on specialized equipment to the John Sevier gas plant in Hawkins County.
