CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – For the first time, DeAngelo Lovingood tells Eyewitness News what happened. He says the person who put him and his family in so much pain should be behind bars.
Lovingood tries to remember what happened the night of September 15th. He says his ex-girlfriend Kearia Baker came to a friend's house on Wheeler Avenue.
He says they began to argue and Baker pulled his dreads and stabbed him.
"I mean, I really can't remember the words she was saying but I remember my hair was getting pulled and I felt a burn, like burn," says Lovingood.
That burning feeling was a wire cutter being jabbed into his heart. Lovingood remembers holding his chest tight to try to stop the bleeding.
His friend Doranda Siler rushed him to Erlanger Medical Center.
"That's all I remember, I just remember blood. And I woke up and seen a whole bunch of people and I'm like what's going on. Then they were sticking needles in me put a mask on me and I woke up with tubes and stuff in my mouth," says Lovingood.
A nurse told Lovingood he was stabbed and had just gone through heart surgery. Lovingood was in the ICU for nearly five days until he was released Monday.
He doesn't understand why Baker would do this to him.
"I really don't want to see her. You go your way, I go my way," he says.
"Do you think she should be in jail?" Rahmatullah asks.
"Yeah, ‘cause like I said, if it was the other way around on me, her family probably, you know, if I made money probably tried to pick me right back up you know," says Lovingood.
Lovingood is set to go out to a cardiologist next week for a check up.
Baker is charged with first degree attempted murder and domestic aggravated assault.
Baker's family pooled in to post Baker's $400,000 bond. She is due in court October 5th.
