CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - A repeat offender is behind bars for beating his girlfriend with a baseball bat.

Police say 35-year-old Chaston Cross held his girlfriend against her will for two days.

When the woman tried to leave this home on 13th Avenue, authorities say Cross smashed the windows of a green truck, then beat the woman with the bat.

The victim made it to the bathroom where she called 911.

She was treated at Erlanger and released.

Cross fled the scene, but fugitive investigators caught up to him when he appeared in court Friday.

Cross is in the Hamilton County Jail, with a $50,000 bond.

He has an extensive criminal record, including two kidnapping charges in 1995 and 2005.
