RINGGOLD, CATOOSA COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -- The Ringgold City Council has made a decision on a new police chief.

The City Council unanimously confirmed the appointment of Dan Bilbrey as the Chief of Police and Wilborn Dycus as the Assistant Chief of Police. Mayor Joe Barger was out of town and Councilman G. Larry Black was unable to attend due to his father being ill.

Bilbrey will accept the appointment, after 14 years with the Catoosa County Sheriff's Department. Bilbrey has been a police officer for 22 years.

Dycus has been filling the position created by the retirement of Ringgold Police Chief Charles Land, Dycus has handled an extensive list of law enforcement issues and with his officers solved numerous cases, according to City Manager Dan Wright.

The issue appeared on the council's September 13 agenda but the council voted that night to postpone ratification of the nominee.
