Report: VW to build second vehicle in Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - The new Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga may be adding another vehicle to assembly. The yet-to-be-named "new midsize sedan" will roll off the line in early 2011.
Volkswagen says it has a goal to sell 800,000 vehicles in the United States by 2018. Last year it sold more than 213,000.
On Monday the online automobile magazine autonews.com reported the Chattanooga factory will "add the Polo small car or a mid-sized SUV -- possibly both."
The autonews.com article did not attribute the information to a specific source.
Channel 3 Eyewitness News spoke with Volkswagen's General Manager for Communication Guenther Scherelis who told us, "Volkswagen Chattanooga is focusing on the construction of the plant and the initial 150,000 vehicle production. At the moment, there is no decision for the production of a second model."
