BRADLEY COUNTY, TN. (WRCB)-- A Cleveland grandmother says her grandson is lucky to be alive after being hit by a car.

Four-year-old Vinny Pastuch was playing with friends on Poplar Road Friday evening at 7:30 when he was struck by a car.

He was taken to Skyridge Medical Center, then flown by Lifeforce to T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital.

Vinny's grandmother says he was playing with a basketball and ran out into the road.

"He was playing with it they said. It rolled out into the street and he ran to get it. When he got up it was too late, the car hit him. They said he flew 20 feet from what I heard, but he's just got a broke leg and he's bruised. Thank god he's alive," says Chris Denlon.

A spokesperson for the Cleveland Police Department says because the boy darted out into traffic, it's likely the driver will not face charges.

An investigation is underway to see if the driver was speeding.
