UPDATE 2: 24 arrested so far in drug sweep
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - Hamilton County's sheriff says his department is cracking down on drugs.
Sheriff Jim Hammond says they received 96 indictments against 49 people on charges ranging from sale and delivery of drugs to possession charges.
Sheriff Hammond says they've arrested 24 suspects since the sting began at 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
The arrests are the culmination of five months of investigations.
In all, Sheriff Hammond says 24 officers were used in the investigation.
The investigation focused on several areas of Hamilton County including: Highway 58 Corridor, Birchwood, Georgetown, Ooltewah, Brainerd, East Brainerd, Sale Creek, Soddy-Daisy, Lookout Valley, Signal Mountain and Hixson.
Sheriff Hammond says more arrests are pending.
