BRADLEY COUNTY (WRCB) - A Bradley County mother and her son say they stopped a burglary in progress in their own home.
Patty Bender and her son, Chad, had been to church Sunday night.
When they came home, a man they'd never seen was coming out of their house.
But Bender didn't let him get away. She followed the man, chasing him down the street in her Sunday dress.
"The only thing I had was cell phone and I was talking to 911 and the boys were backing me up and I had the Lord on my side, we'd just come from church," said Patty.
Bender says the suspect crashed his truck in a ditch and then took off on foot.
But, she kept up with the man, 46-year-old Stephen Voyles until sheriff's deputies tracked them down and arrested him. Voyles is charged with aggravated burglary, DUI and driving on a revoked license.
The school board approved Dr. Bryan Johnson's request to establish "Opportunity Zones" to assist with academic improvement.
