HIXSON, HAMILTON COUNTY, TN. (WRCB)-- A domestic violence victim who was beaten by her own husband died Sunday night at Erlanger Medical Center.

Just three days before Shannon Wiser's husband inflicted the brutal beating, he was arrested for a similar domestic dispute involving her.

Eyewitness News spoke with some of Shannon Wiser's friends Monday.

They called her "Shae" and say they'll always remember her warm and caring personality.

Shannon Wiser's high school math teacher says she was a model student.

"She was always well composed and a good student," says Anderson.

Like most people who knew Shannon, Evelyn Anderson is having trouble understanding why her life was cut short.

"I was kind of in shock. You don't think of your kids ever having something like this ever happening to them. You think of them going out and getting a job, doing well and coming and saying ‘hi' occasionally," says Anderson.

Patrick Goldberg and Shannon have been friends since high school. He describes her as a person who accepted people for who they are.

"She was a giving person, a caring person. She was always there for her friends or for anyone. She took care of everyone. She was the one who drew everyone together," says Goldberg.

Goldberg says Shannon was often the glue that kept everyone in touch with each other.

"She was very humble about being a central figure. She didn't try and go out and say that I lead this group of people, I drew all these people together. A lot of people just felt drawn to her. She just accepted it," says Goldberg.

When friends and family heard things weren't looking good for Shannon, more than 70 people visited her in the ICU.

Wiser has two young boys that are still in state custody.

According to court documents John Wiser was arrested just three days before for domestic assault and posted a $25,000 bond.

Wiser's charges have been upgraded to criminal homicide.
