McMinn Co. deputy hit during gunfire

Posted: Updated:

MCMINN COUNTY (WRCB)-- A McMinn County Deputy was hit by a ricochet bullet while assisting Etowah Officers in an investigation just after one Monday morning.

Deputy Brad Johnson was at a home on 836 County Road 660 in the Goodsprings Community investigating a vehicle that was involved in an earlier crime. During that time, a four-door Honda driven by Judson Scott Green attempted to flee the scene.

The Etowah officers fired six shots at the car in an effort to stop Green, who had an outstanding warrant for violation of community corrections.

It was one of those six bullets that bounced off the target, striking Johnson in the torso. Johnson was wearing body armor and was not injured.

"We are thankful that Deputy Johnson sustained only a torn uniform shirt, and that the incident was not more serious," said McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy.

Green was arrested and the incident is still under investigation.
