CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WRCB) -- Points were hard to come by for both McCallie and McMinn County for the first 44 minutes on Friday night. But the final four were a difference story.
Garrett Hicks' 12-yard touchdown run with just over a minute to go sealed the Blue Tornado's 13-9 win over the visiting Cherokees in the Friday Night Football Highlight Game of the Night.
McMinn County (1-1) took a 9-6 lead just a minute earlier on Conar Roberts' 39-yard field goal, but Trell Gardenhire busted loose on the ensuing kickoff and returned it into Cherokees' territory to set the stage for Hicks' game-winning score.
McCallie squandered scoring chances in the kicking game all night, missing both extra point attempts, as well as two field goal tries.
It wasn't until quarterback Trent Lusk scored from two yards out early in the fourth quarter that the Blue Tornado got on the board. They were forced to rally from an early deficit against the Cherokees for a second straight year after Drew Massingale's six-yard keeper put McMinn County up 6-0 in the first half.
Daniel McClure led McCallie (1-0) on the ground with 136 yards on 24 carries, while Keenan Hale caught four balls from Lusk for 94 yards.
