State announces 45 new jobs in Dalton

Posted: Updated:

DALTON, WHITFIELD COUNTY (WRCB) - The State of Georgia is creating dozens of jobs in Dalton.

The Labor Department is opening the first disability services office in North Georgia, creating 45 jobs.

It's called the Disability Adjudication Services program, or DAS, and will open in October.

"We've got some of the worst unemployment rates in the state, says Brian Anderson, Dalton Chamber of Commerce CEO. "We have a chance to do the kind of things that will put people back to work, give them a chance at employment. It's certainly big news."

The DAS office will determine which residents qualify for Social Security programs.

As an added boost to the Dalton economy, the office will be furnished with local carpeting.

If you're interested in applying for one of the jobs, a career fair will be held Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Northwest Georgia Trade Center.
