Mayor Of Fort Oglethorpe, Ronnie Cobb, Dies

FORT OGLETHORPE, GA (WRCB) -- Eyewitness News has learned that Ronnie Cobb, the mayor of Fort Oglethorpe, GA has died.  Cobb apparently suffered a heart attack in his home and never regained consciousness.  

According to City Manager Ron Goulart, Cobb was pronounced at Hutcheson Medical Center at about 8:45pm Tuesday night.

Goulart says that Cobb was fine during a meeting with Costco earlier in the day. His death has taken everyone by surprise.

Ronnie Cobb was in his mid 60s. Funeral arraignment are pending.

Mayor Pro-Tem Louis Hamm will fill the role of mayor for the time being. Until a special election can be held.

Cobb's term as Mayor began in January of 2008. Before that he sat on City Council from 1996 to 2000 and 2002 to 2004. 

Cobb is survived by his wife, Jan Justice Cobb, 2 Children and 2 Stepchildren. He is a graduate of Lakeview High School Class of 1964.  He has lived in the Fort Oglethorpe area for 60 years.  Ronnie is retired from T.V.A. as well as Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 43 and IBEW Local 175
