Trenton man arrested for child molestation

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, DADE COUNTY (WRCB) - Dade County investigators arrested 35-year-old Ray Wallin for sexually molested a 15-year-old-girl Monday night.

The crime happened at a apartment complex right across the parking lot from the Dade County Sheriff's Office.

A family friend came forward with the information and that's when Sheriff Patrick Cannon sent detectives to question the family.

"Anytime there is a situation where a older male is molesting a younger female or vice-versa we want to know because we take those things very seriously," Detective Nathan Lee says.

Detectives said Wallin was a long-time friend of the family and they confiscated his computer, camera, and video games systems.

Lee said cases involving young children should never be taken lightly.

"I hate for innocence lost sort-of-speak when something like that happens with a juvenile if we or me can do anything to protect that. I'll do all that I can," Det. Lee says.

Bobbie Allison, a Dade County High School counselor, says it's generally difficult for a molestation victim to talk about the incident with parents.

"I think it is easier for them to talk to friends than parents. They don't want to hurt their parents. They don't want to disappoint their parents," Allison says.

Allison says when a student come forward with any information involving molestation, the school system keeps everything confidential.

She also says it's never an easy conversation to have.

"It is very difficult to hear that someone has hurt someone else especially a child or young person," Allison adds.

Wallin faces child molestation charges and remains behind bars at this time.

Detectives believe there may be more evidence on those confiscated items.
