Bradley County Police catch jewelry thief
BRADLEY COUNTY (WRCB)-- Property crimes detectives following leads in the April 9th theft of jewelry from a home on Francisco Road were able to trace the stolen property to two local pawn shops and then make an arrest.
Detectives arrested Tonia Mashelle Norman, age 33, of a Waterlevel Highway address, charging her with theft over $500. Bond was set at $5,000 and Norman was released from custody after posting that amount.
Aided by the computer technology of Leads on Line, Bradley County investigators entered the name of a suspect into the LOL database which showed she recently pawned several pieces of jewelry.
Descriptions of individual pieces in the pawnbroker's record were sufficient for investigators to match them with items in the owner's theft report. They have since been positively identified by the owner who gave their value in excess of $900.
Leads on Line is an online investigation system used by law enforcement to locate stolen property sold in pawn shops or offered for sale on E Bay. The Bradley County Sheriff's Office joined the nationwide program just a few months ago.
