Water line break sends Grundy County High home early

Just 2 days into the school year and Grundy county is already dealing with early dismissals.
A water main break at the high school kids at all the schools home early.

Just before noon today, a main water line behind Grundy county high school sprung a leak, sending water to the surface. Crews were called in, and quickly realized to fix it, the water would need to be shut off.

For obvious reasons Principal Rick Rust sent the kids home from school.

"Mainly no bathroom facilities, but we managed to feed all the students before we left," said Rust. "it's hard to operate a school this size without water for that period of time. So I asked the director if we could emergency dismiss today."

Rust said it's hard to start thinking about make up days just two days into the school year. He says it's unclear if they will have to make the day up.

As for the cause of the leak, crews say it could be a number of things.

Allen Joslyn of Big Creek Utility said, "It could be an insulation thing, or it could be one of those plumbing things."

Whatever the cause, Joslyn says his crews will take care of this quickly and he expects everything to be resolved by the end of the night.

"Couple hours we can have it back on line, repaired, and the kids can come back tomorrow and go about their business," said Joslyn
