New terminal, fuel center announced for Chattanooga Airport

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) – City officials have announced plans to build a new terminal at the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport.

Three million dollars in stimulus money has been used to break ground on the new terminal..

The FAA and Airport Authority will chip in another $10 million to eventually build a fuel center and hangars for corporate and private planes.

So how does it benefit the general public?

"Eventually when some of our airlines making international connections, either Mexico or the Caribbean or somewhere like that, we'll become an international airport. So we're looking forward to that day," Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield explains.

Mayor Littlefield says Chattanooga Metro is often bypassed, because pilots can't refuel here.

The fuel center will hopefully lure them.

The mayor also said ultimately, the new terminal will lower airfare out of Chattanooga.
