Baby mistakenly taken in car theft; left at restaurant to-go counter
ATLANTA (AP) - Police say a thief who inadvertently stole a minivan with a newborn baby in it stopped past a wing restaurant and ditched the child on the to-go counter.
Atlanta police say they're looking for a man driving the victim's 2006 blue Chevrolet Uplander, but that the baby is fine after the Tuesday morning incident.
Eighteen-year-old James Ku, whose family owns Wings R Us in downtown Atlanta, tells police a man came in around noon and placed an infant in a car seat on the counter. Ku says the man said he found the child and to call 911 before he fled.
Police brought the mother by less than two minutes after Ku called 911. She says she had left the baby boy in the minivan while she dropped off another child at daycare, and returned to find the van gone.
Police say the baby slept through the incident.
