Stepfather pleads guilty in child's death
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - A Hamilton County man pleads guilty in the death of his two-year-old step-son.
Investigator says two-year-old Christopher Patton's stepfather took the boy's lifeless body to the emergency room in August 2008.
Detectives say Justin Loines told police the boy had fallen from a child's picnic table. A medical examiner ruled it a homicide. Investigators say the boy was beaten to death.
Channel 3 Eyewitness News talked with former neighbors of the family who say they were shocked to hear that Loines had pleaded guilty in the death of two year old Christopher. He was sentenced to 25 years.
Former neighbor April Jahen says she's not sure that's enough time to serve. She adds,"He deserves it for what he did. Children are God's gift. That's all there is to it. They're God's gift to all of us."
Patton's mother, Ashleigh Hallett, is still facing felony murder in the case. Her trial is scheduled for August.
