Neighboring judge to review warrants against Catoosa Sheriff

Posted: Updated:

RINGGOLD, CATOOSA COUNTY (WRCB) - A judge from a neighboring judicial district will determine if warrants sworn out by a magistrate judge against the Catoosa County Sheriff have merit.

Last month, Chief Magistrate Sonny Caldwell tried to fire Magistrate Anthony Peters and had him arrested when he refused to leave his office.

Peters says only the state has the authority to fire him.

Charges against Peters were dropped, but he later took out kidnapping warrants against everyone involved in his arrest, including the Catoosa County Sheriff.

Eyewitness News has learned a judge with the Conasauga District has now been assigned the case, to see if those warrants have any merit.

Peters and Caldwell are part of the Lookout Mountain Judicial District.
