UPDATE: Toys R Us robbery suspect stopped after police chase
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)-- On Saturday July 10th around 5:15 PM Chattanooga Police responded to a business robbery at Toys R Us at 2200 Hamilton Place Blvd.
Upon arrival officers were told that a white male came into the store and brought two shirts to a cashier and pretended he wanted to purchase them.
He then told the cashier to give him all the money and threatened the cashier if they did not comply. The cashier complied and gave the suspect the money. The suspect did not produce a weapon, however he did imply he was armed and would harm the cashier.
Witnesses saw the suspect get into a gray or silver Nissan Altima with TX registration. The suspect description and vehicle was broadcast city wide.
A short time later a second robbery at Marshalls on 2040 Hamilton Place Blvd was phoned into police. The suspect matched the description and employees of Marshalls stated the suspect came into the store, brought two shirts to the counter and then demanded money from the register.
The employee complied and the suspect fled.
Off duty officers working extra jobs at Hamilton Place Mall observed the suspect vehicle and notified dispatch and patrol officers in the area they were following the suspect vehicle and were going to attempt to stop it at the Krystals lot. The suspect vehicle stopped briefly and then sped off toward I-75.
A pursuit of the suspect vehicle continued north on I-75 until it was stopped with the assistance of Cleveland PD and Bradley County Sheriff's Department at Paul Huff Parkway.
The suspect vehicle had been reported stolen in TX.
Mark Glen Applegate, age 43, of Houston TX was taken into custody without further incident.
Applegate was charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, theft over $10,000 and evading arrest.
