Cindy Sexton's 25 years at WRCB
By David Carroll
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)- In 1985, WRCB was struggling in the ratings, looking for a spark for its news team. Anchorman Bill Markham made one phone call to Las Vegas. Problem solved.
Cindy Sexton, who had worked with Bill a few years earlier in Huntsville, Alabama had since moved to Las Vegas. She was ready to come back to the South, and Channel 3 welcomed her with open arms.
Since moving to Chattanooga on July 8, 1985, Cindy has reported on health issues, emceed every Share Your Christmas Food Drive, and anchored Eyewitness News at 5, 5:30, 6 and 11:00 p.m. Each Monday she reports on a child in need of a Forever Family.
She and her husband Gil Gilbert and their daughter Gracie are all actively involved in the community, and just recently her parents moved here from Missouri.
It's been an impressive career for someone who never set out to do television news. As a child, Cindy wanted to be a teacher. A graduate course in broadcast reporting revealed her communication skills, and she was on her way; first to Paducah, KY, then to Cape Girardeau, MO, before her stints as an anchor in Huntsville and Las Vegas.
The entire staff of WRCB salutes Cindy on her 25th anniversary, and thanks her for being such an important part of the station's success in the past, the present and the future.
