BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A relative and family friend both say they helped former Kentucky player Eric Bledsoe and his mother pay rent when he was in school in Birmingham, and that it wasn't paid by his high school coach.
Billy Fagnes told The Birmingham News in a story Wednesday that he paid most of the rent on the two-bedroom house where Bledsoe and his mother, Maureen Reddick, lived during his senior year at Parker High School. Fagnes is Reddick's cousin.
Family friend Jerome McMullin said Parker coach Maurice Ford found Bledsoe and his mother an affordable home but McMullin helped pay about three months' rent.
Both men said Ford did not pay any rent. The New York Times reported in May that the NCAA was investigating the academic history and recruitment of Bledsoe. That story quoted the family's landlord as saying that Ford paid at least three months rent.
