BENTON, POLK COUNTY (WRCB/AP) - Deputies busted on a huge cockfighting operation this weekend.

Now 100 people face charges as a result of the raid in Polk County, Tennessee.

Many of the people who were charged Sunday are from Georgia and North Carolina where cockfighting is a misdemeanor.

The National Humane Society provided this video to us from a cockfighting operation in Kentucky. They are taking these operations very serious.

In Polk County authorities are seeking indictments against the ring leader.

Most charged in animal fighting are charged with gambling, others are charged as spectators.

In Tennessee cockfighting offenses remain a misdemeanor for first time offenders.

"So because Tennessee has a weaker cockfighting law, they're coming here to commit this crime here," says John Goodwin from the Humane Society.

We tried to talk to the people who live nearby, but we're told that no one would talk to us and we're wasting our time.

Authorities also found drugs on the scene. The Humane Society offers rewards of up to $5,000  for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person involved in illegal animal fighting.
