Unusually hot weather expected through June

NASHVILLE (AP) - Unusually hot weather is forecast through the end of June across Tennessee.

The astrological summer began Monday at 6:28 a.m. CDT and National Weather Service forecaster Bobby Boyd says temperatures have felt like the dog days for most of the month.

Through Friday, the first 17 days of June were the hottest in Nashville since the same span of days in 1952, averaging 7 degrees above normal.

A heat advisory was in effect for West Tennessee and temperatures were expected to reach 99 degrees Monday and 100 degrees on Tuesday.

Middle Tennessee was expected to have highs in the upper 90s through the week and East Tennessee - even the mountains - were expected to get into the lower 90s.

A slight chance of thunderstorms could drop temperatures by a few degrees over the weekend.
