Howard Hawk Willis is charged in the October 2002 murders of a young North Georgia couple.

After almost 8 years the trial is finally underway.

Willis fired a host of attorneys, and is now representing himself. He even asked the judge for more time at the beginning of this trial, but that was denied.

Attorney Hallie McFadden was our guest. She said this long a delay is uncommon, but when it is a death penalty case, judges take all the necessary precautions to make sure the defendant's rights haven't been violated.

She also said usually after two attorneys the judge will lose patience with the defendant and not allow them to continue to request other attorneys.
