Barnes courts teachers as he seeks a comeback

ATLANTA (AP) - Democrat Roy Barnes is engaged in a full court press to bring educators back into the fold.

Teacher anger over Barnes' aggressive plans to overhaul the states' school system has been blamed with helping lead to his 2002 re-election defeat.

On Tuesday, the Georgia Association of Educators declined to endorse a candidate in the race for governor, suggesting all may not be forgiven just yet. Still, with classrooms around the state reeling from massive funding cuts, teacher layoffs and ballooning class size, some educators are feeling buyers' remorse about Republicans ruling the state.

Barnes released a video on his website and to educators recently apologizing for "not listening."
