CMA security guard likely died from natural causes

NASHVILLE (AP) - Police say a security guard working at the CMA Music Festival in Nashville likely died from natural causes.

Thirty-three-year-old Fred Stapleton was found dead inside a medical tent on Friday night.

Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron said Monday that a preliminary autopsy showed Stapleton had certain health issues and that his "death at this point and time appears natural."

Aaron did not elaborate on Stapleton's health issues and he couldn't say whether the heat exacerbated matters.

Highs were around 93 degrees in Nashville on Saturday, but the humidity was 50%, making the heat index 101.

Aaron said the state medical examiner's office is awaiting the results of a toxicology report before making a final ruling.
