GA woman swept over Ala. canyon falls

FORT PAYNE, Ala. (AP) - Officials say a Georgia woman died after she fell from the waterfall at Alabama's Little River Canyon National Preserve near Fort Payne.

DeKalb County Coroner Tom Wilson says 39-year-old Becky Griffith of the Cartersville area apparently drowned on Monday after she was caught in moving water and swept over the falls.

Officials say Griffith was camping and was at the Little River Falls overlook just off Alabama Highway 35 with her 12-year-old son. They say she was taking a picture when she went over the falls.

Wilson says a witness pulled Griffith from the water and began CPR, but was unable to revive her.

Fischer and Adamsburg volunteer fire departments and the National Park Service worked to recover her body Monday afternoon.
